The New Image Studio Commercial Photographers recently had the opportunity to collaborate with the New Duke Cancer Center’s Marketing Director, Charique Richardson. Over this three day commercial photography shoot, our goal was to showcase the New Cancer Center’s staff and highlight areas such as their state of the art research and development wing, and the unique radiation and MRI clinic. We also focused on patient rooms, and communal spaces. These locations stand out from other hospitals because they were deliberately created with the comfort of patients and their families in mind.

It was a perfectly crisp and sunny day in December when our product photographers shot Raleigh designer Sarah Tector. This Product Photography shoot featured, the designer herself, wearing some of her exquisite hand-made pieces from her line, S. Tector Metals.

Our vision for the shoot was to evoke a feeling of edge, while capturing the urban decay of Downtown Raleigh’s warehouse district. As you can see from the photos, this setting allowed Sarah’s jewelry (and bright orange pants) to really…ummm…snap, crackle, pop!!

Sarah has been creating unique and playful jewelry for going on twenty years, and has made quite an impact in the artisan community during that time. Her combination of whimsical meets modern can not only be seen in her jewelry, but her personal style as well, which is what made this shoot especially fun…Not to mention what a natural she was in front of the camera!

We are super-excited about the launch of our full service production studio! New Image Studio Boudoir Videography Raleigh unlocks the essence and elegance of your innate desires…

The term “boudoir” may be ascribed to a genre of  Boudoir Videography and Boudoir Photography is typically captured in our studio or at a luxury hotel suite. It has become fashionable to create a set of sensual images of women, men, and couples in “boudoir style”. The most common manifestation of contemporary boudoir videography and boudoir photography is to capture variations of candid and posed video and still photographs of the subject wearing amorous accouterments. Naturism is more implied, however it is never explicit. Commercially the “boudoir” genre is often (though not exclusively) derived from a market for women or men who want to surprise their significant others with videos or photography that evoke beauty, romance, and passion. Brides also enjoy surprising their future husbands by gifting the images on or before their Wedding Day. Other motivations or inspiration for boudoir photography shoots include Maternity, Couples Photography, anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, and for servicemen and women overseas.

Boudoir videography and boudoir photography may, in some cases, be distinguished from other videography and photography genres such as glamour photography, fine art nude photography and erotic photography. According to research carried out in Digital Boudoir Photography (2006), John G. Blair said that the word “Boudoir” or “Boudoir portrait”, was used in 1980 by Motherlode Photography Studio in California to describe a picture more elegant than “erotic portrait” or “semi nude portrait”.

Historically, the boudoir formed part of the private suite of rooms of a lady, for bathing and dressing, adjacent to her bedchamber, being the female equivalent of the male cabinet. In later periods, the boudoir was used as a private drawing room, and was used for other activities, such as embroidery or spending time with one’s romantic partner. English language usage varies between countries, and is now largely historical. In the United Kingdom, in the period when the term was most often used (Victorian era and early 20th century), a boudoir was a lady’s evening sitting room, and was separate from her morning room, and her dressing room. As this multiplicity of rooms with overlapping functions suggests, boudoirs were generally only found in grand houses. In the United States, in the same era, boudoir was an alternative term for dressing room, favored by those who felt that French terms conferred more prestige. In Caribbean English, a boudoir is the front room of the house where women entertain family and friends.

By filling more of the frame with the product, and the smaller your product is, the closer we will get to it! We had a great opportunity to photograph some of Seagorve Pottery’s unique pieces. With styles both artistic and functional, Seagrove potters became unique by weathering the change when pottery became less of a practical necessity and more of a decorative concern. Bishop McCann hosted this year’s Verizon Wireless Technology Innovation Awards at the Umstead Resort in Cary, NC. We were excited and honored  when the Program Manager at Bishop McCann hired us for their event photography. Her event photography goals included capturing images with photojournalism flare as well as highlighting the savvy displays that the vendors set up . Emotion is one of the first things we think about when we hear the word “photojournalism.” These images capture the passion of the moment, ultimately evoking reaction from the viewing audience. No doubt…There is a richness and substance that goes along with film portrait photography and vinyl records, but as we all know…applied sciences are allowing the World to evolve in ways that we could never imagine. The digital revolution has allowed photographers and designers portrait photography to move light-years beyond the technologies that were available for us in the film days.

Most of you may remember your first “green screen experience” stemming from Star Trek: The Next Generation. This Chroma Key technology was actually introduced to the moving picture industry in 1940 by Larry Butler, for the movie The Thief of Bagdad. Since then, digital compositing has become essential in the post processing stage to create special effects.

Through the integration of blue/green screen inspired technology and digital compositing, New Image Studio portrait photographers and designers are able to take fine art and Portrait Photography to a place “Where no man has gone before”….Ok, so this statement might be a bit bold, but so are the images that we are able to create through this type of technology…

Judo Master, Vincent Bartee’s, photography goal was to create a powerful images that embrace his passion for martial art combat. As it turns out…Vincent’s images may also be seen as sensational commercial advertising and a useful tool to intimidate his opponents.

Tips to Prepare for a Headshot or Portrait Photo Shoot

Your Hair

~Men and women alike all seem to place their attention on their hair when it comes to a headshot photo shoot, and rightfully so. The cut and style of your hair has a direct effect on the quality and success of your headshot. Because of this, it is important to follow several rules:

~Never cut your hair if your photo shoot is less than one week away. Freshly cut hair can look strange on camera, and if it’s a bad haircut, you’ll basically be wasting your time and money on the photo shoot. Cut your hair two weeks before the photo shoot, and if need be, give a slight trim no sooner than five days before the photo shoot.

~Go for a neutral style; unless you’re a character actor. Film, theater and TV actors should go for a standard, neutral style that highlights the natural curve and shape of your face. However, if you’re a character performer, a crazy hairstyle may work in your favor as long as the cut is within the scope of the character you’ll be playing.

Clothing

~Typically a headshot is from the shoulders (or mid-chest) up to the top of your   head. Because of this, it is important that you select the best shirt. DO NOT wear shirts that are bright or have busy patterns. Go for a shirt that is solid colored and one that does not hide your neck. Turtlenecks are a big no-no.

Know Your Face

~Before ever scheduling a photo shoot, you must know your face and what angles are best. While the photographer will help identify these, it is your job to come on set with a personal knowledge of your face. Practice your smile in front of a mirror. Once you have found the ideal smiles (yes, there are many different types of smiles) memorize how the sensations in your face feel. Memorize the placement of your check and forehead muscles. How are your eyes squinted? Becoming highly aware of the movements in your face allow you to replicate your perfect smile at the drop of a hat – the photographer will love you for this.
