Welcome to my photography blog! Here are some things I’ve had my lenses on: commercial photography projects and the work behind them. Architecture, product photography, headshot photography, and photography classes.
What You’ll Find Here
This blog is basically my running journal of studio life. Some weeks, that means a full day on location, photographing a manufacturing floor or a construction site. Other weeks, it’s a quiet afternoon in the studio, where I’ll work on lighting for a single product shot until it’s exactly right. I like sharing both ends of that spectrum, because that’s honestly what the job looks like day to day. Not just the polished final images, but also a bit of the process behind them.
Beyond the Studio
You’ll also find posts here about the community work I love being part of, plus local events I’ve photographed and collaborations with people doing interesting things around Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Morrisville, and Chapel Hill. And every so often, there’s a story about a client relationship that turned into something more than just a shoot. In fact, well into this career now, some of my favorite projects have come from people I met through my work.
Who This Blog Is For
Maybe you’re a business owner trying to figure out what kind of photography you actually need. Or maybe you’re an agency creative director scouting a new vendor. Or perhaps you just love photography and want to peek behind the curtain. Either way, I hope you find something useful, or at least enjoyable, in here. I try to write these posts the way I’d actually talk about the work, because jargon and fluff don’t help anyone. Instead, you’ll get what really happened on set and what I learned from it.
Classes, Workshops & Immersions
II also teach photography classes and lessons here in Raleigh, along with multi-day travel immersion experiences for anyone who wants to go deeper than a single session. So you’ll see updates on all of it here: classes, workshops, immersions, and the occasional student success story sprinkled in too. Photography has given me a career I love, and I get just as excited watching someone else fall in love with it.

I love documenting new development through architectural photography! On Saturday, January 3, 2015, the Memorial of the Holy Name of Jesus, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge celebrated the Rite of Blessing and Groundbreaking for Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral. The new cathedral, located on ground purchased by Servant of God Father Thomas Price in 1896, is projected to be completed in 2017. I was here recently to capture some of the progress.

One of the reasons I love shooting commercial photography is because of the opportunities I have to work on unique projects. The TyraTech shoot is a perfect example of this! Over the course of two days, I captured action shots, headshots, team photos, product shots. I even photographed living insects!

RQC hired me to capture one of their newest facilities at Camp Legeune, NC. This sustainable, state of the art campus is so intentional, I felt like I was in Washington, DC! Clean lines were everywhere I turned, and I was continuously in awe with the bells and whistles that seemed to be around every corner. I love how the solar panel systems look like butterflies about to take off for flight. These solar panels also power the entire facility and double as the largest car ports I have ever seen…so cool. The bay area was another favorite. The light was crisp and bright when I took my fist shots. As the massive “garage” doors opened, I felt my eyes become relaxed as the soft light poured in. Imagine yourself standing on large slated rock, looking into another beautiful sunset. The sound of the river flows through each ear and relaxes into your mind as you think, “I still cannot believe this is where I live.”
We had a chance to do architectural photography for a couple who were requesting photos of their condo at the River Mill in Raleigh, NC. This was a gorgeous scene to capture! The River Mill ranges from historic to contemporary in an unparalleled setting. Nestled on 23 wooded acres, bounded by the Neuse River and Falls Lake, River Mill is the essence of North Carolina’s rich past and natural beauty.

Centro in Raleigh, NC presented the 5th annual Day of the Dead 5K on October 24th. This event benefits the Brentwood Boys and Girls Club of Raleigh.
I did not run in the race. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy being a spectator and decided to snap some sweet pics of one of the race’s devoted runners, Michelle Stamey and her husband, Zach Stamey.

Our event photography captured all aspects of the event including the speakers, facility interiors and exterior, walking tours of the facility, products and branding, and headshots.
